Dinner Dance Nightly

with Itkis and His Orchestra and Floor Show The long look brings strength in dark days. It is because we place so much emphasis on the things that are near that we see only them, that in dark and cloudy days we are so apt to become a prey to despair and hopelessness. We think of those people on the storm tossed ship with St. Paul, driven before the tempest, when for many days neither sun nor stars were visible and all hope seemed gone. Paul alone is confident. The others saw only the dismantled ship and the raging seas, but Paul saw One above the power of the storm, and so it was that he was delivered from all worry and fear. He could hope and trust that One who had never failed him. Can we not do the same today Lift up your eyes. God reigns above the storm. With that vision we shall be able to overcome all temptations to worry and fear. The remedy for hopelessness and despair in every sphere is the long look. Seeing only What is near, we are a prey so often to discouragement and fear, but we shall gain courage and hope when we look through and beyond tempora al things to the eternal and enduring realities, to God ruling over all.

emember the great challenge in Isaiah 40; "Hast thou not known, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? He give th power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increase th strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

Lift up your eyes, Had the apostles seen ohly the things that were near—their own poverty and ignorance—and over against them the hostile world, they would never have undertaken the hapless task of trying to convert it. But they saw with the long look, and so seeing they beheld Jesus "sitting at the right hand of God," the place of power, and so they went everywhere preaching the Word. God great us that longer vision and the confidence it gives.

Let us look back and see how great things He has done for us. Who among us cannot say, "O God, we have heard with our ears, and our Fathers have declared unto us, the noble works that thou didst in their days and in the old time before them?" Then look forward with confidence. Although the present may seem dark, although in the realm of spiritual things we may feel evil is triumphant, see clear-eyed the near and painfully obvious facts of sin and wrong, of cruelty, vice and selfish-Iness,—terrible enough to make any despair—we shall see Christ triumph hant over sin and death, able to save to the uttermost them that come to him and put their trust in him. Then shall we be filled with hope once more. We shall "bear about with us the infection of a good courage, and meet all life's ills and accidents with gallant and high-hearted happiness" looking ever unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, our present Saviour and Redeemer, Canada Making Tanks For Britain Ottawa, June 8.

Work was started in Canada today on the construction of 300 tanks for Great Britain.—Reuter,
