Cars Seized

Yesterday's crime outbreak started at 5.47 am, with the commandeering of a Ford hire car by suspected gangsters. Six of them got into the machine and ordered the chauffeur to drive them to Keswick Road near Amherst Avenue where he was forced to alight and was bound up and detained in an alleyway near by while his passengers drove off in the car. At about 610 a.m. they came back and returned the machine to the chauffeur, after which they made off.

The second case of car command deering happened at about 725 a.m. when a Johnson hire car was seized by three Chinese, one of whom was armed and who ordered the driver to go to Railway Road near Jessfield Road station where they alighted. The chauffeur was detained in a neighbouring straw hut and the others drove off to return some time later with the car, which they abandoned.

Foreign clothes to the value of $500 were stolen by four armed robbers yesterday morning from a Chinese dry cleaning establishment at 899 Connaught Road. The clothes were taken from the window of the shop and after cowing the occupants of the shop into submission, the robbers took to their heels.
