Exports differ in their opinions as to just how soberly or, contrariwise, just how cheerfully our womenfolk wil went to dress in the coming months, Stiebel, in common with many West End designers, is keeping about three inches below the knee—but his colours are bright.
Norman Hertnell, who has postponed his dress shows for another week in order to add more day frocks of sober Air Force blue, and more warm woollen frocks for the chilly evenings when coal must be used with discretion, seems to hold rather different views. Mr. Hartnell be given much charm by a suitable "pinny," while a "Sunday best" can be afforded protection during domestic moments. Certainly few articles of clothing are more delightfully feminine than the apron, with or without a small bib.
Small lingerie aprons, trimmed with rows of tucks or with narrow lace, can be both useful and extremely attractive. They are best in pure white, though ecru or pale shades can also be effective when made from lawn or muslin. Incidentally they are really useful when engaged upon delicate sewing while wearing dark clothes.
