Joint Business Claimed

Dr. Terni revealed in court that in his exhibit No. 16 Mr. Sten wired to Mr. Yannoulatos. In this document there were two words "Laurie returned," indicating that Sten, Yannoulatos and Laurie were doing business together.

Lawyer for the defence also tried io destroy evidence given at a previous hearing by Mr. N. Peach against his client. At the last hearing, Mr. Peach appeared as a witness for the plaintiff, saying that he was a broker in the tobacco business. Mr. Peach told the court that he had been dealing with the defendant for 18 months during which he saw Laurie doing business with the defendant. Mr. Cheyne expressed his doubt regarding Mr. Peach's statements in court and he showed receipts indicating that Mr. Peach was then engaged in some carpenter work. He doubted that Mr. Peach could be a bona fide witness. Dr. Terni contended that a carpenter could be a witness and tell the truth. The fact that a man is 2 carpenter does not mean that he is dishonest, he told the court. St. Joseph was a carpenter and father of Jesus, but did not mean that he was a War.
