Departure of s. Fatshan May Still be Delayed Canton, Aug. 13.
Representatives of Me: Butter-feld & Swire here yesterday notified the Canton Pilot Association that the Company would pay all pilot dues in arrears so as to obtain a pilot for the s. Fatshan and allow her to proceed from here, Mhe British ship has remained in port for the past ten days because the Canton Pilots' Association refused to supply a pilot till the British shipping company paid up pilotage dues said to be in arrears for the past six months. As the port regulations require ships of all nationality to tak. 3 pilot before they are permitted t leave or enter the port, the s. Fatshan was accordingly unable to proc ceed.
The issue attracting considerable attention here and the whole matter with the B. & S. ip is not expected to be settled for some time as the British firm, it is stated, has attached conditions io their payment of the pilot dues whereas the Pilot Association require payment unconditionally in full—Domei.
