Paris, Nov. 25.
The f: of "enemy raids" east of the Moselle is reported in yesterday's French war communique. It adds that "we made a few prisoners." Local weather conditions are said to have reduced air activity.—Reuter. and best known of the "badlands" night spots, was destroyed Johnson Garden & Stadium Ballroom, one of the largest early yesterday in a fire which also razed a colony of straw huts and gutted a Chinese factory. A small girl was burned to death. The flames originated in the squatters' settlement immediately east of the dancing-gambling-and-opium centre, well within a lane running westwards from Yenping Road a half block south of Connaught Road. Although a strong wind fanned the fire, the Settlement Brigade succeeded in limiting its spread west of the Johnson Garden and thus saved a number of flimsy Chinese houses and sheds between the amusement centre and Jessfield Road. The Settlement firemen were assisted in their work by brass-helmeted crews from the Special Municipality fire department in the western district.
