Carson Too Steady For Kho Sin Oei

Huge Crowd Turns Out to See Exhibition Tennis Matches at Race Course

A great crowd turned out yesterday to see some good tennis and to swell the British War Fund when three exhibition matches were played by top-flight local exponents on a Race Club court on the grass course. In fact, the crowd was so much larger than expected that it was necessary to stop selling tickets before the first match began. The sun was shining brightly and the mass of spectators settled down in anticipation of some brilliant tennis. If the tennis failed to reach a high standard, it was certainly hard-fought and occasional flashes of brilliance were fol-settle down and Carson making more errors than usual, But in the second set the American pair went to work, volleying and smashing with finality to win at 6-4. Many of the rallies were long and some fast exchanges caused flurries of audible excitement in the crowd. The light was failing when rain stopped the play at 3-1 in favour of the Chinese in the third set.

Mr. A. H. George, H.B.M. Consul-General concluded the programme with a speech thanking all those who had made the afternoon such a success.
