Italy Renews Ancient Battles with Greece Days of Thermopylae Are Gone, Rome Asserts

Rome, sept. 1.

Sig. Virginia Gayda, Premier Benito *Mussolini's spokesman, assailed the Greek press yesterday for being enti-Mahan and warned the newspapers of Athens not to brag about the glories of Ancient Greece as compared to Ancient Rome.

"As Greek newspapers state that Greece has never been defeated since the times of Leonidas," Sig. Gayda said in an editorial in the "Giornale d'Italia." "we wish to refresh their memory by pointing out that more than once the legions of Imperial Rome beat and conquered the Greeks.

"As the Greek press recalls the glorious episode of Thermopylae, we wish to remind them that the battles of today are fought and won with tanks, cannons and aeroplanes, and not with spears and shields.""—United Press.
