Untouched Areas

Innumerable public-houses were wrecked, as if the Germans had deliberately aimed their high explosive: these centres where beer-dun! Britons gather nightly to discuss the day's events.

I saw havoc, destruction and dea on all sides, but during the tour the taxi sometimes travelled miles where there was not a sign of destruction. In these miles of tranquil, norma! London peace of the sort that pre-Vailed before the war still reigned.

Children played in the streets. Women gathered in front of stores. Passers-by exchanged pleasantries. There was no horror in these districts, but I wondered what the forthcoming night would bring them—whether, if I toured these peaceful streets again I would find them in shambles similar to other bombed areas.—United Press.
