Lord Gort Reveals Events Leading to Dunkirk Tragedy

London, Oct. 18.

'UCH(fresh light on the Flanders tragedy, culminating in the epic of Dunkirk, s thrown by the long-promised war des~ patches of Lord Gort which are now published in Britain.

By force of contrast the despatches serve to show how immeasurably stronger is Britain today than in the early days of the war when both materials and ammunition were sadly lacking.

They also will probably do much to meet critics who advocate a fresh hasty and ill-prepared continental invasion, The despatches show that the main causes of the Flanders tragedy were firstly, the failure of Allied support on either flank; secondly, a so-called Weygand plan which was based on thin air; thirdly, lack of liaison; fourthly, insufficient equipment and insuMcient reserves, The despatches are published as a supplement. to the London Gazette, while a booklet by Major-Gen. Beith, Whois well Iown as the novelist Tan Hay, puts the despatches in narra tive fon for popular consumption.
