Selection Board

The selection board was much easier than I expected. I just had to sit at a table with two RAF. officers who asked me general knowledge and a few mathematical questions, I had no difficulty in answering them. I start off with 2/- a day, but as soon as I can start flying, it goes up considerably.

Incidentally, if at the end of the war I wish to go back to the Bank, I shall have no difüculty——Whenever any officer looked at my papers and saw that Shanghai was my birthplace, he invariably said that things were pretty hot out there. To one I replied that the people in Shanghai thought that things were hotter over here. He looked at me in considerable surprise and said "Is that so?" So you see there are no grounds for worry or alarm, I don't know where I'll be posted to yet, so I can't let you have my! address.
