Campaign for Ensilage

The importance of making ensilage to save imported feeding-stuts was emphasized by the Minister on August 7. Every dairy farmer, he said, must regard ensilage as his winter insurance. In making good ensilage from aftermath and second crop seeds the milk producer is not only reasonably certain of maintaining yields, but he helps to release shipping space for essential materials. Mr. Hudson said:—We are aiming at 1,000,000 tons of ensilage between now and October. In a few days the Ministy will launch an extensive campaign for ensilage.

"I have no intention of asking the population to go on a grass diet," said Lord Wool-ton, "but the farmers must make en-ge for their animals and we can have the meat afterwards." He would do everything he could to get con-contrates, and he begged the farmers to do what they could to increase milk supplies.
