London, Dec, 28.
Mules from India are now joining the British Expeditionary Force in France, proving again that no war or military operation can be safely conducted without mules, telegraphs Reuter's military correspondent, The mule retains his indispensability whatever the circumstances. It was frequently demonstrated in the last wer that the mule could surmount all obstacles.
He was unequalled for pack-carrying across country when shell fire had made roads impassable.
The animals now arriving from India are old soldíers in every sense. They have served with screw guns in the north-west frontier province and elsewhere.
Accompanied by mule transport, columns can go anywhere, and guns can be galloped into action and mounted in the widest locations.
Mules have enough sense to remain under cover until the time comes for them to take up their burdens again.—Reuter.
