Only one match in the second division of the squash league was successfully completed last night, the end of the month work of the men playing for the Bank making it necessary for that team to arrange a postponement of their match against the Army, to this Friday at the Rowing Club.
A. M. Kennedy was similarly um-able to play off his game for the Race Club last night and he will meet his opponent on Thursday.
As a result of these postponements, the only match fully completed was that between the Light Horse and the Rowing Club the Volunteer Unit defeating the Oarsmen by three matches to two on the latter's courts. The other engagement of the day was between the Foreign Y.M.C.A. junior side and the Race Club second stringers, the former defeating the latter on the Race Club courts by three matches to one, Kennedy's fifth and final game not affecting the final issue between these two teams.
The closest match at the Rowing Club was that between A. G. Honey and A. G. White, the former taking the match in the fifth game after the score had been tied at 8-8. Both played hard and the rum of points switched from one to the other in succession, Honey showing up to better advantage in the later games. White won the first game in convince ing style, but thereafter it was a long struggle, and when the fifth game came, Honey was leading 8-8, after the score had been 6-6, and with game ball in hand lost the hand-out, but was able to regain the hand-in, to go om to take the match at 10-8.
Another interesting match was seen when A. A. White defeated A. S. Read, the former showing some very polished play, and proving too much for Read in the last two games, the fourth of which he polished off in quick time. Both are vastly improved players this season and more wil! be heard of them.
