London, Dec. 27.
An eye-witness account of the Stanholme sinking was given today by a survivor of the British vessel who was picked up by a Norwegian rescue ship and landed in Britain The Stanholme, this survivor stated, was torpedoed by a U-boat barely two hours after she had pulled out of harbour. The attacking sub was sighted by the sailor on lookout duty, but too late to give adequate warning and take defence measures, We were having tiffin," the survivor said, "when we heard a violent explosion, followed swiftly by a second, "No warning was given and we had no time to launch our lifeboats because the ship began to sink within four minutes. The radio operator was killed at his post, but the rest of us managed to float a raft and I took my place on this.
"Members of the crew jumped overboard as the ship quickly settled lower in the water and we later picked up eleven of these before we in turn were picked üp by a Norwegian ship."—Havas.
