Tokyo, Dec. 27.
A denial of the statement published today by the "Yomiuri Shimbun" a serting that Japan and Soviet Ri had agreed to extend the present temporary fisheries pact for one year was made by the Foreign Ode spokesman, Mr. Yakichiro Suma, al this morning's press conference.
He also denied another published by dhe same news alleging that the Foreign Minister. Admiral Nomura, had informed the Cabinet that Mr. Joseph Grew, United States Ambassador, had informed Japan that the Untied States did not desire à state of no treaty between the two countries, In making the denials, the spokesman declared he knew nothing that would bear out the two statements published by the "Yomiuri Shimbun." He said he considered the newspaper premature in reporting such a situation between Japan and the So: and Japan and the United S'ates. He declined, however, to have further discussion on the subject, saying it would merely lead to further misunderstandings.
The spokesman maintained this view though it was pointed out by a foreign correspondent that understanding apparently existed concerning whether the United States Ambassador gave an assurance that a no treaty situation would not arise between Japan and the United States, which, Reuter understands, is very doubtful—Reuter.
