Just a Phase

"Their collaboration since—the signing of the German-Soviet agreement has only become closer and never has suffered the slightest reverse, contrary to allegations of foreign propaganda.

"The talks are not an aim in themselves but an important phase in the relations of perfect, permanent collaboration of the two countries."

The French wireless adds that it seems probably the Berlin disd sions will be followed by talks in Moscow after M. Molotov's return. Political circles in Moscow state that, after reporting to M. Jose Stalin, M. Molotov will confer ihe Japanese and German Ambassadors and probably representatives of Italy and Turkey.

Inspired Axis comment on M. Molotov's trip, particularly that emanating from Rome, indicates a strong hope that the discussions will result in Russia's bringing influence to bear on Turkish policy in a manner favourable to Axis plans.

Russia's recent policy does not appear to observers in London to give good grounds for expecting this hope to be realised any more than many others which find expression in the Axis press and wireless.
