Britons May Leave

Thailand — Official Advice Given To Women, Children in Spite of Better Outlook

Bangkok, Feb. 16.

The British legation here yesterday advised British women and children to evacuate Thailand as soon as possible.

The warning came on the heels of official announcements from both London and Bangkok that "happy relations" exist between the two countries as result of a recently concluded non-aggression pact.

Both London and Bangkok issued official communiques on Saturday expressing hope that friendly relations between Britain and Thailand would be maintained.

The Thai Government, meanwhile, issued a communique assuring the people that the present tenseness in the Far East does not threaten to involve Thailand. The communique urged the nation to remain calm and work toward making Thailand self sufficient.

The official Bangkok radio denied foreign reports that Japan had asked Thailand for naval bases and said Japan and Great Britain both were "lovers of peace."

Japan, the radio said, had assumed the role of mediator in the Thai-

French Indo-China dispute in order "to see peace established in this part of the world.

The radio said it was unlikely t Japan would attack Thailand.
