Himmler from the start used the tactics of minding other people's business and to such effect that on the night of the Reichstag fire the S.S, were able to make thousands of arrests as well as occupy all the Police Stations without anyone being fully aware that a revolution was taking place, From then on Himmler has firmly consolidated his position as second only to Hitler by virtue of being Chief of Police and Commander of the 8S.
He has made the S.S, into a self-contained army of about half a million men with tanks and motorized equipment, artillery and an Air Force, Thè men he describes as an "aristocracy of Blood," for each is supposed to have an "Aryan" pedigree going back to 1750, They are unscrupulous gangsters ready for any vile deed but fanatically loyal to the Party, to their Commander, and to the Fuehrer, Himmler is also Inspector of the Gestapo, so holds in his hands threads leading to all parts of Germany, of countries which the Nazis have overrun and through the U.A.I. to every place throughout the world where his agents can go, spying, checking up, organizing disaffection and corrupt tion, The Fifth Column, while certainly not his invention, may yet be said to have been brought to a new pitch of perfection by Himmler, Himmler's method of securing the loyalty of the S.S. and of binding them into a close group has been to invent a tradition by the introduction of pagan and mythological ritual which appeals to the worst side of the German character,
