Nearly £14,000 Sent Home Handsome bur in Hand, But More Money Required mittee of "ihe Central British At a meeting of the Executive Com-
War Fund (Shanghai) held on Fr day, it was reported that £12,947 (including special grants for Army and Aw Force Comforts, etc.) had been remitted to the Mansion House Fund and £1,000 to the Navy League. There was a balance in hand of £4,002 and $6,885. In order to make Shanghai's contributions as effective as possible, and in view of the fact that up to now the brunt of the war has been borne by the Navy, Auxiliary vessels, and the Royal Air Force, it was decided that 90 per cent. of the amount available at the end of next week should be remitted home, 60 per cent. to the Navy League for comforts, etc. for Officers and men of the Royal Navy, and specially of mine-sweepers and trawlers; and 30 per cent, to the Royal Air Force Comforts Fund. It was noted that it was the general view of the Service Departments that monetary gifts were on the whole preferable to material gifts, though the latter, if sufficiently non-perishable, are also welcome, transport permitting.
