Ankara, Feb. 21.
It was believed here yesterday that the Cabinet expects to begin immediately to pas extraordinary measures, as it was officially announced that the National Defence Law, invoked by the Cabinet on Monday, would become effective immediately.
It was believed the Cabinet decided io apply the law, passed by the National Assembly on January 19, because Turkey felt that she and her Allies, Britain and France, were threatened in the Balkans and the Near East.
Turkish newspapers yesterday did not comment on the Cabinet's announcement The only mention was a short front-page box quoting a dispatch issued by the official news agency stating that the Council of Ministers had decided to apply the National Protection Law—the name under which the measure was passed by the National Assembly.
Some circles attached particular significance to the fact that the decision was taken at a time when the Superior Army Council was in session here. No inkling of what measures would be taken by the Cabinet was given to the press. It was believed that the measures the Government would adopt would be as secret as possible as they concern' national defence.—United Press
