London, Feb, 25.
Winston Churchill, Prime Minister, yesterday told Mr.
Mamoru Shigemitsu, Japanese Ambassador to London, that Japan had no grounds on which to base offers for mediation of the European conflict, reliable sources said they understood.
Mr. Churchill was said to have informed Mr. Shigemitsu that if Mr. Yosuke Matsuoka, Japanese Foreign Minister, had intended to suggest Japanese mediation in Europe, Britain failed to see'on what grounds the offer was based, 'The alleged Japanese offer was said to have been conveyed Fast week, on Mr. Matsuoka's, behalf, Mr. Anthony' Been, British Foreign Secretary, by Mr. Shigemitsu.
