THE AMERICA'S EU!

The Better Yacht

To the Editor of.the "NortH-Curwa Daty News'

Sin—Yachtsman am I none. But then, obviously, neither is ENTHUSIAST for never would he honestly subscribe to that trite hypocrisy of "May the better boat win."

That Ranger is the better yacht seems agreed by thos€ on the spot. She lost once, in an unofficial trial to Endeavour I—which may. or.may not be a faster boat in American waters Endeavour II—but did very what she liked (was it fourteen times successively?) with Rainbow, which had proved too good for. Sopwith's old challenger.

In the Cup races, Endeavour LI apparently outmanceuvred and led Ranger in the early stages of at least one race—the one in which she too! a record beating! If Enznustasr is right, @ leeway of 18% minutes in a light' breeze needs some.other planation than mere bad handling. (The lobster-pot theory I'm informed won't do), As our friend remarks, Endeavour Il probably did not do full justice to her designer, but it seems a rather bold statement to maintain that he is "second to none" when, for the last few years, he has proved pretty monotonously that he is second, at least, to Mr. Elm Stephens.
