The Municipal Advocate, S.M.C., states in -his report for July that 12,120 cases were prosecuted in the Shanghai First Special Area District Court and the Kiangsu High Court, Second Branch, during July, as com= pared with 11,604 in June. Out of the total number of cases prosecuted, 10,905 were administrative and 1,215 were criminal cases.
Out of the total number of administrative cases brought to trial, 6466 persons failed to appear and their bail was confiscated, while 38 cases were withdrawn, as compared with 5,859 cases in which bail was confiscated and 27 withdrawn in June; 4,401 administrative cases were pro-secured to completion, out. of which number 4,399 persons were convicted and two persons were acquitted. Twenty-nine criminal cases were withdrawn and 1,186 prosecuted to completion, out of which number 1,010 persons were convicted and 176 acquitted, The total number of administrative and criminal cases prosecuted to completion was 5,587, as compared with 5,702 in June; 5,409 persons were convicted and 178 acquitted, as compared with.5,489 persons convicted and 213 acquitted in June.
In addition to the above, there were 128 private criminal prosecutions, as compared with 138 in June.
