Ships Officers May Strike in Colony

Hongkong, Apr. 27.

Nearly 100 ships officers, belonging to the China Coast Officers' Guild, are coming out on strike tomorrow at 5 pin. if an ultimatum demanding increases in wages sent yesterday is not acceded to. The firms from whom the wage increases are demanded are Williamsons, Peters & Ca., and the Wu Fat Sang Company. Messrs. Jardine Matheson & Ca., Butt field & Swire and the Hongkong Macao Steamship Company are not affected, as thei wage-rates are considered sat factory. If the strike is made it will result in 23 vessels being tied up, causing a serious d ruption in local shipping services, especially in view of the prevailing large freights.—Reuter.
