Sterling again slumped in a session of hectic trading today, with the rate moving to a new low since the early days of the war, as holders of British balances, which under the new control regulations cannot be used for a variety of British purchases, tried to find buyers, who, however, were very scarce, This situation was due to the fact that American importers last week had anticipated their requirements for a long period ahead and, consequently, had no immediate need to buy more, together with the absence i of demand from importers of rubber and tin, who has been the mainstay of free sterling until the new regulations.
