The life imprisonment sentence passed sometime ago by the First Special District Court on Yang Chia-chu, head of the general department of the Asia Development Society, an anti-Chinese terrorist gang formerly operating in Hongkew for his implication in the brutal murder of Tsai late manager of the closed Social Evening News" whose decapitated head was found in a French Concession street many months ago, has been commuted into a seven-year prison term.
Yang received a lighter sentence 5 a result of his filing an appeal w the Second Branch Kiangsu High Court which changed the decision made by the lower court in favour of Yang. Two other members of the same society who also appealed against two three-year prison terms imposed upon them by the lower curt were not pardoned and they are to serve three years in gaol.
During the previous hearings, it was revealed that the Chinese newspapermen was lured to go to Hongkew where he was invited to dinner in the New Asia Hotel. After the dinner he left and a day later his decapitated head was found in the Concession with a note warning people taking anti-Japanese attitude attached to it The police produced strong evidence against the accused who allegedly plotted the whole affair. One of Y: g's accomplices was said Ito be a neighbour of the late Mr. Tsai.
