"Precious Little Glory" In China War So Far New York, Jan. 6.
The "New York Herald Tribune" in an editorial today criticized the new Japanese Cabinet.
"The reshuffle of the Japanese Cabinet," the "Herald Tribune" said, "has brought the country's most actionary nationalists into a position of supreme responsibility. Much propaganda against the constitutional Government of Japan—including acts of violence—can be traced directly land indirectly to Baron Kiichiro Hiranuma change simply brings Baron Hiranuma from the wings on to the stage......It looks as though the Japanese Army in China has needed the support from home which could not be procured without tramping on the toes and profits of the four or five huge family monopolies which finance Japan's adventures and cash in on her achievements.
"There has been precious Little glory for Japan in this Chinese campaign so far and if henceforth, it is to be artificial glory without profits for Japsn's big monopolistic patrons, how long will it last? Baron Hiranuma, in taking office, asserted the Nipponese spirit will conquer all like it has forever. Baron Hiranuma may be backed by Chancellor Adolf Hitler and Premier Benito Mussolini, but it may be questioned whether Nippon is behind him.—United Press.
