Special Training

"In February of this year, the company started special training with a view to taking part in the regular guard and patrol duties in "B" Sector, so as to help to spread out the duties being performed by the non-technical units of the Corps. This meant a great deal of hard work for all ranks. because, as most of our guests know, the unit is normally armed with the revolver, and we now had to learn rifle and bayonet work s well. I may say here. that the manner in which m: sergeant-major, CE. buckled down to this special job, and the rapid progress they have made, reflects great credit on the company as a whole, and has been a source of tremendous satisfaction to myself.

"Our Annual Camp on March 29 and 30 was a complete success from all points of view; we carried out a programme of training, and, while most of. the company probably worked harder than they normally do in their civilian occupations, they seemed thoroughly to enjoy their work as much as their play. Probably the only unsuccessful feature about our Camp, was the failure, due to a timely interruption -by the Sergeant 'Major, of some of our young bloods. who. were. intent upon turning a couple of Bill Davis' geese, and perhaps cne of his donkeys. loose in the officers' quarters in the early hours of the morning Training Manual "And finally, perhaps I might mention, that I believe Signals Company to be the only unit in the Corps to possess its own Training Manual, the completion of which represents. to me at least, one of the outstanding events of the season as far as Signals Company is concerned. The Manual deals in detail with every phase of our work, and is undoubtedly of the greatest assistance to all ranks. It might be added incidentally, that several other units of the Corps have said come very nice things about it.

"In closing my remarks about the past Training Season, I wish to place on record my sincere thanks to all ranks of the Company for their hard work, for their ce-operation and loyalty. and for the happy comradeship we all enjoy. I am extremely proud or my company, and L think I em right in saying that every other member is as proud of it as I am myself.

"And now, although I have spent quite a while talking about the Company and telling our guests how good we are, I would not like them to go away with the impression that we take all the credit. We recognise our indebtedness to Headquarters for the helpful advice and guidance which is always available."

Captain Miles closed with individual references to the guests present.
