Pistols Drawn

At that moment a police constable, noticing what was happening, hurried to the scene. Three other Chinese, all armed, then stepped out of a crowd, and commenced to assault both the foreigner and the Chinese policeman.

With pistols still drawn they then entered a car, which was standing at the kerb, and drove away. It was reported to the police that the car had. a Settlement licence, No. 11696, and a licence, No. 1025, issued by the "Special Municipality."

It is believed that the men responsible for the assault were bodyguards to a Chinese, who had visited the Park Hotel. Just as Mr. Tucker was stepping on the kerb this Chinese emerged from the hotel and the bodyguards took action, it is thought. Four of.the men were armed with Mausers and a fifth person with a small automatic. The latter was believed to have been the man guarded.
