Stockholm, Apr. 16. peso between German end Norwegian troops was already in full swing when the German Minister to Norway presented. the Nazi demands for German control over Norway to M. Halvdan Koht, Norwegian Foreign Minister, at 5 a.m. on April 9, the Norwegian Government seid today in a statement similar to a British White Paper.
The statement said Dr. Hans Braueuer, German Minister to Norway, had informed M. Koht that Germany would not allow the Allies to use Scandinavia as a battlefield against Germany and that he had documentary proof the Allies were imminently occupying Narvik and other points. Therefore, Dr. Braueuer said, certain German military operations were begun to take over the defence of Norway which was not strong enough to resist. He added that Germany believed Norway would not resist the Allies, the statement said, essential supplies for our forces in Norway rumbled into British ports," the paper said. "Our warships, newly re-fueled, are escorting the ships carrying these supplies to Norway. Some of these warships had just returned from engagements in the Skager Rak and the Kattegat. The outstanding feature of the operations was the organization which enabled our troops to move almost unnoticed from throughout Britain to embark for Norway. Some military camps in Britain have disappeared overnight as men travelled to embark for the new battlefield, Most of the travel was done at night."
