S.M.C. to Retire Press Officer

Mr. J. W. Fraser Falls Victim to Economy Plan

In accordance with the recent decision of the Shanghai Municipal Council to attempt to economize on the budget by dismissing certain foreign employees from various departments of the S.C. Mr. J. W. Fraser, who has had charge of publicity for the Council, is being retired from the staff of the Council Secretariat in the near future.

First on the list of the Council's purge were eight members of the Public Works Department, some of whom are reported to have resigned already. Some of the men who have qualified to do so will draw pensions while others will receive a certain allowance for each year of service with the SMC.
