"The slow recovery of Netherlands economic life is, according to this Nazi, due to incomplete or wrong understanding of the National Sodalist economic principles. He who does not understand or even opposes these principles will be crushed and it will therefore be to the advantage of the Netherlands if her people would only understand these facts. According to Dr. Fischbock the unavoidable curtailments in the distribution of raw material are accepted and understood by the German people for ideological reasons and because they want to win the war.
"It the Netherlands wish to be treated on an equal footing with Germany as regards the allotment of the available resources they must also be ready to accept the same obligations as Germany does. And it Holland cannot or does not want to understand these facts then....and here he used the phrase of the grinding wheels which would inevitably crush the Netherlards people. Boiled down to a few words this means that the Netherlands economic life must be made subservient to the German war-industry.
"That the supply of essential commodities has suffered severely under the new German order is general knowledge. The Netherlands. until a short time ago still a land of'plenty. is rationed on every side and even several home-produced goods, such as eggs ard fruit, have already become unobtainable as a result of the needs and rapacity of the "herrenvolk."
"What is perhaps less generally known is that even where the unfortunate Netherlander has been able to obtain the coupons for the purchase of some rationed articles he often finds that the coupon is literally no better than a scrap of paper and that the goods to which it entitles him are not available. What all this means in plain terms of suftering and misery becomes clear when it is known that on the estimates of the Netherlands coal trade, the people of the Netherlands. will be lucky if they get 20 per cent. of their normal coal consumption during the winter.
