Netherlands Would Fight

Washington, May 8.

The State and War Departments declared this evening that they had heard nothing of the report published in New York announcing that German troops had invaded Holland. The report stated that two German columns were advancing into Holland from Bremen and Dusseldorf in the general direction of Leeuwarden and Arnhem. it further stated that all telephone communications with Holland had been interrupted.

"I have no information whatsoever regarding the report which was telephoned to me by an American news agency," Havas was told last night by the Dutch Minister to the United States, Dr. "Alexander London. He confirmed that he had been entrusted with the interests of his country abroad if war breaks out with Germany. He said that he himself had informed the press of this. The Dutch Government, he specified, had instructed him to pay for the expenses of all Dutch diplomatic and consular offices abroad on its behalf.

A spokesman of the Netherlands Legation said that this measure was a proof of Holland's determination to fight if attacked. "The German propaganda services have stated that the Netherlands would not oppose an aggression" he added. "That is certainly not the case."—Havas.
