Driven Off

London, Mar. 28.

There was a brief alert in the London ared this morning, the first daylight warning for eight days. A small formation of planes reached the outskirts of the capital but were swiftly driven off.

Five German airmen were landed at a British port last night after being rescued from, their rubber boat when their plane had been shot down early yesterday.

Some idea of the work done by London Fire Services during air raids has been given by the London Divisional Commissioner, Admiral Sir Edward Evans, who states that during a single raid in December the fire services dealt with 1,725 fires, and in another raid there were 1,780 fires. These figures were exceeded during the raid on the capital on Wednesday of last week.

One of two German bombers which attempted to attack a British convoy yesterday was shot down into the sea, while the other made for home badly crippled.
