The strike of garbage coolies in the French Concession gave unemployed Russians a good chance to make some money and approximately 150 of them were engaged at $8 per diem to keep the streets in the Concession clean.
The photo shows three Russians hard at work on Avenue clu Roi Albert. Although the better part of the strikers had returned to work in the Concession, a number were still holding out, demanding that their requests be granted first.
