London, May 4.
It was disclosed yesterday that the well-known Arabian explorer and orientalist, Mr. St. John Philby, has been detained for some months under the Defence Regulations, but was recently released.
At his Hampstead home it was stated that Mr, Philby was resting, and disinclined to speak about his detention. It is understood that he is considering whether he should take any-action in the matter.
An expert on Saudi Arabia, Mr. Philby was one of the few Europeans permitted to reside in the Holy City of Mecca. In the year, the war broke out, he contested a by-election at Hythe, in Kent, on behalf of a mushroom organization known as the "People's Party," but polled only 576 votes. -Reuter.
