Dow-Jones Summary

By courtesy of Swan, Culbertson & Fritz The tone of the Stock Exchange improved today but the volume of business passing continued to be small Traders were encouraged by the imminence of Mr. Wendell Willkie's acceptance speech, which is expected to have an important influence On sentiment, the steadiness of the London market, lack of liquidation after Tuesday's break and general re-licence over selling. Business news remained favourable, including the unexpected gain in carloadings, fav-Ourable corporation reports and rail equipment orders. The market ignored the unrest in the Balkans. Prices were at their best levels during the mid-session but later some recessions were recorded, although the majority retained their gains, ranging about one point. In the bond section, Government issues continued to decline.

Stocks:—Received renewed encouragement resulting from the publication of many excellent second quarter earnings reports, especially rails.
