The Silver Putter competition of the Hungjao Golf Club, a handicap, 18 holes medal play, was held at Hungjao on Sunday, P. E. Smith winning with a score of 72. The trophy, for which 48 members competed. has been donated by Sir Victor Sassoon.
The competition was played under ideal conditions. Ricketts was never quite at his ease during his round tut, with the aid of some great recovery shots, he managed to complete the first 9 in 36 and returning home with a 3, a 4 and a perfect drive to within 20 yards of the creek of the 12th, it looked as though he might put up a challenge.
At the 12th hole, the Relief Green is in play and in order to finish anywhere near the pin, the approach has fo land about 2 yards over the creek. Ricketts played the shot required and it appeared as though he might run up dead, Unfortunately. the ball on alighting, landed on one of the bamboo nets used for retrieve ing lost balls (which had been carelessly left there by a forecadddie) and rebounded back into the creek so, what looked like a 3, was turn-
As Ricketts was not playing sufficiently well to recover these lost shots, the best he could do was to finish in 75.
