Today Alice Marble—broke and called tubercular a few years ago—has just finished her first professional tour, which' should make her a moderately wealthy young woman. She was guaranteed $25,000 by pr moter Jack Harris for a four-an a-half month tour which lasted until the end of May. Atop that. she was what the sports people call "in for a share of the, gate." That will mean another $25,000. Then there will be radio, writing, lecturing, endorsing and other incomes amounting to perhaps $10,000, the prinçipal one of which is her job of designing sports clothes for a famous firm.
All of which comes to about $60.- 000 for 1941—just on twice as much as "Blazin' Bob" Feller, Joe DiMaggio and other sports stars will make this year. And that isnt bad for a girl who was born in an obscure California logger's home and who only a few years ago was considered hopelessly through.
