Truck Driving

May 26—We have had another week of good weather and it has been fairly interesting. (The censor returned my letter of two weeks ago because I enclosed a photo of myself in uniform, so that's your loss!) We had two goes at truck driving. Mor. went with B. the first time and he was very frightening, jack-in-the-box starting, swerving, etc, etc. On Tuesday we had a practical exercise which we messed up. Incidentally, tomorrow till Thursday I am company commander and we have two schemes (one with another company) and two night ops, so I shall have to look slippy.

On Wednesday a Staff Colonel who has been with us this week took us through some administrative problems, such as why a recommendation for award was not taken up etc., whicn I enjoyed.

On Thursday we shot in the 30 yard range; it was the first time most of us had shot with the Bren and we did quite well. It is awkward to hold an automatic at first.

In our second period of driving we went up to Bagshot and Bisley, I think you know the road.

On Friday we were shown round a battalion's trenches by the staff officer; it was most fascinating and he walked us off our legs.

lay I have been out on my bike ing the scene of Monday's battle.
