Lord Mayor's Fund

Totals £3,000,000

Contributions from All Over World Pour in London, Sept. 4.

The Lord Mayor's Red Cross fund at the end of the first year of the war has reached a total of more than £3,000000 compared with £1,576,000 collected during the first year of the last war.

Field-Marshal Sir Philip Chetwode, chairman of the Red Cross of St. John, told a meeting yesterday that nearly one-third of the money came from overseas. Every State in North and South America is supporting the fund, notably the American Red Cross, Sir Philip disclosed.

A "very large proportion" of the 70,000 British casualties in France are prisoners of war.—Reuter.
