Bring Good Results

No Crimes Reported in French Concession

Barring almost all the streets leading one to Avenue Edward VII and Avenue Foch has brought good results-in the French Concession, as this measure and strict searches carried out by police patrols forced criminals to forego their life of crime, and no major cases have been to the police since the institution of these measures a week ago.

Continuous armed robberies and terroristic activities forced French Police officials to adopt a stricter attitude towards the situation and smaller thoroughfares along the Concession-Settlement boundary were barricaded as a first precaution. This measure enabled the police to carry out stricter searches of cars and pedestrians entering the Concession.

This good work, however, has had its bad side, and there have been many protests from the public against the closure of these streets. In a recent letter to the editor of the "North-China Daily News," a complaint is made against the barricading of the streets, the writer stating that these preca&tionary measures have so far been of little use, at the same time causing inconvenience to many pedestrians.

The French police maintain, nevertheless, that not only has crime been On the decrease in the past week, but that no armed robberies, holdups or murders have been committed since the barricading.
