Nazi Bombers Driven Off By Anti-Aircraft Fire

London, Sept. 22.

German raids over London up to midnight last night appeared to be half-hearted and were being driven off by heavy British anti-aircraft fire.

Anti-aircraft shells burst above the city at unseen raiders shortly after midnight and searchlights probed the skies above several districts but the German planes appeared to be avoiding the centre of the capital.

Earlier a barrage of large antiaircraft shell fragments showered the United Press observation tower above one of London's tallest bull ings when the city defence batteries opened fire on a lone German raider on the outskirts of the central area. A single heavy detonation was heard a few minutes later in eastern London but no fires were started.

No Fires Started plastered oath bombs at both Zee-and ships were plentifully

brugge and Antwerp. Here as at other ports ground fire was intense.—Reuter,
