The second half of the racing season of the Shanehsi Yacht Club Opened for "A" Class with a race down to Woosung from the Slipway on Saturday afternoon, Unfortunately there were only 3 starters Valerie. Twin Star and Mignon, This was very disannointing es every one had been looking forward to seeing Ingomar with her new mast racing again, She had been undergoing speed trials against Mignon the previous week. but her owner was not eatidfed with her performance and still hed some alterations to make and as also delayed by the closing of the bridges into Hongkew so could not turn up.
The other three yachts set off against the last of the flood in 4 very light wind. Mignon was away to the best start but soon got blanketed by Socony Wharf which allowed Twin Star to get away with it. Valerie in charge of Capt. Sabel. new to the river as far as yachting is concerned made the unpardonable offence of going inside the line of buoys off Point Island from where he was promptly chased off. This should also have dis^"-fied him from the race but being very "Informal" it was dee cided to let him off with a caution, It wasa reach down to Kiaojow Creek and ù" run in the Astnea Channel, where Twin Star had already established an enormous legd. Later the wind died down to nothing leaving Mionon without steerage way in the middle of the traffic rust as the steward was serving "tea."
After this experience she decided to stop at Woosung and withdraw from the race. The other two completed the course by going round the Lismore, ^w the way back Velerie was completely becalmed a few yards from the finishing line and was actually some 25 minutes after Twin Star in crossing It.
The race on Sunday morning round the Blockhouse Buoy did not start under very favourable circumstances, A strong ebb was running and there was little wind. Valerie was caught on the wrong side of the line with little have of getting back to it. Appeals to the sailing committee were made to "Let her go" which she did and ds the race was Informal" the Powers that Be " the Rules" when the matter was reported them ^t Head Quarters Mignon Easy Winner Tt was a broad reach out to the Quarantine and once out of the Whangpoo the wind soon sprang up into a spanking breeze. Tt was close hauled after Quarantine was rounded, where the tide was simply roaring Test Match Player Is Awarded D.F.C.
