Another high percentage of conviction of persons charged in criminal cases in the Settlement Chinese courts with a total percentage of 921 for August the same as in July. was shown in the August report of the Municipal Advocate which was released for publication yesterday. In administrative cases 100 per cent convictions were recorded.
A total of 10522 cases were prosecuted in both courts during August against 11,247 in July. Of the former 9,006 were administrative cases and 1426 criminal cases. Of the total number of administrative cases 4.556 persons failed to appear and their bail was confiscated and nine cases were with. drawn against 4839 cases in which bail was confiscated and'eleven dec" withdrawn in July. A total of 4831 administrative cases were prosecuted to completion during the month, out of which 4.531 persons were con-viered. Altogether 115 criminal cases were withdrawn and 1.132 were concluded of which 953 persons were convicted and 179 acquitted. The total number of criminal and. administrative cases concluded was 5.663 compared with 6.100 in July. Altogether 5.484 persons were convicted and only 179 acquitted against 5.905 convictions and 195 acquittals of the previ-cus month
