During the month under review there were 78 private criminal prosecutions against 57 in July. Only one appeal case was concluded during the month. There were 278 appeals filed by defendants pending at the end of August, 51 in the Supreme Court and 227 in the High Court.
On August 31, there were pending in the High Court and the First Special District Court 67 cases. There were also 27 cases in which. persons were held on writs on detention pending police enquiries.
