Odessa. Position Improves

London, Sept. 26.

The position of the Odessa garrison nas been greatly improved by an action in which fe 13th and 15th Rumanian- Infantry Divisions were routed for the second time, states a Moscow message.

These troops after an earlier mauling at the hands of the Rüssians %yere reformed and flung against the defences in er effof on"which íhelr commanders evidently" plimed hopes says the newspaper "Red Star" After d&y-long "Whting the Rümaniahs broke through Fe Soviet lines et the cot of several hundred dead. Undismayed, the Russians re-trouped er forces atfácked'' he auk of the -Rumanias ánd isólatéd them from the maim riy before the breach could be exploited:

"When a surprise attack was made on the other fink "WMh the aid of Soviet naval dits landed from the sea the Bwranihiў broke and fled.

Defence Line Pushéd Forwárd "As a result the defence line of Odessa was pushed forward a con-Sideràble distance," the Mar concludes.

A Soviet communique states that a group of planes, of the Black Sea Fleet destroyed "11: planes on aerodromes.

Reuters military—cómmentator, "Anünalist," says news from the eastern front is again confused and con-fioting. Although both sides speak of'heavy üghting at Leningrad and Odessa, at neither of these places do the Germans appear to have made any headway.

e Germans now assert that reduction of Leningrad is a matter of two or three days but they made similar claims on previous occasions fróbably with as much justification. Certainly there is no sign of any weakening of confidence in the tone of Russian communiques and inbe-pendent news fnessages from Leningrad. The population seems animate ea with unbreakable spirit that has more than matched the ruthless ardour of the Germans.
