London, Jan. 6. COASTAL Command planes attacking the invasion port of Brest at dusk on Saturday scored three direct hits on a German destroyer, the Air Ministry announced yesterday.
Explosions followed the three hits, the communique said. At least one bomb exploded on the stern of the same warship in a later raid, it added.
"The warship had been using full anti-aircraft armament against the bombers, but before the raid ended, the warship was shrouded in smoke and its guns were silent."
The bombers also scored hits on two. merchant vessels off the south-west coast of Norway, the Atr Ministry so Other bombers attacked Hamburg harbour and industrial cities in northern Germany, the communique said.
