United Aircraft Corp. today denied that it had sold planes to Japan since the beginning of the State Department's "voluntary" embargo against the export of American aircraft to nations engaged in bombing civilian populations.

The embargo was initiated by the State Department on July 1, 1938, after Japan had purchased almost $9,000,000 worth of American planes end aircraft parts in the first half of the year.

United Aircraft was named by the State Department this week as the only American aircraft manufacturer which had failed to comply with the Government's embargo request. The company's statement today, however. said that it had been able to avoid carrying out a contract for shipment of plane propellers to Japan after July 1. The shipment had been cited by the State Department as the only violation of the embargo—United Press.
